Grown Up Moments

So last week my roommate and I had 3 friends over for dinner.
You could say it was my first "grown up" dinner party.

We all sat on the floor because I don't own a coffee table
(Well I do, but I took it apart and it's sitting in our laundry closet because it cuts up the room)

We cooked Chicken Burgers, Baked Potatoes, and Broccoli and Cheese.

For appetizers I had cheese and crackers and plums (don't ask me where those came in... I guess I had a lot to get rid of)

We decided to invite two people from our church that we don't know as well and that our new to our fellowship and we really just wanted to get to know them.

It was a great time. We asked each other the funniest questions and laughed the whole night. We all definitely got to know each other better and to finish off the night we all went around the circle and prayed.

This night reminded me of this scripture:

"Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality." Romans 12:13

I recommend that if you are just an acquaintance with someone and would like to get to know them, invite them over for dinner!

"Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares."- Hebrews 13:2

"You shall treat the stranger who sojourns with you as the native among you, and you shall love him as yourself, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God." -Leviticus 19:34

I Will Not Be Getting The "I Voted" Sticker This Election

So I thought that I would touch on the touchy issue that seems to be all people are talking about...

POLITICS!

Since the hype about the big election coming up I wanted to give my insight, which may surprise you.

If you would have asked me a few years ago about politics I would have talked with you till the death. Told you how I thought the opposing candidate to who I wanted was this, this, oh AND that.... and how I thought you were an idiot for considering them.

I hosted and attended debate watch parties, read up on many articles, watched a lot of news, and really educated myself about each candidate, usually priding myself on being a moderate but usually leaning toward the left.

Well then Jesus came into the picture and I read this verse:

"I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness." - 1 Timothy 1:2-12

“Makes Jesus your Lord proud of you by being good citizens. Respect the authorities, whatever their level; they are God's emissaries for keeping order. It is God's will that by doing good, you might cure the ignorance of fools... Exercise your freedom by serving God, not by breaking the rules. Treat everyone you meet with dignity. Love your spiritual family. Revere God. Respect the government.”
-1 Peter 2:13-17 (The Message Translation)
"Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God." -Romans 13:1

After much prayer, biblical wisdom, and observation of politics I have decided that for the presidency, I will vote for neither Barack Obama or Mitt Romney.

My reasons for not voting are many but the main few are these:

1) No matter who you vote for, if Congress cannot learn to work and pass legislation in a bi-partisan manner, it doens't matter if the President wants to give us all unicorns and gum drops, it's not going to happen unless Congress can learn to work together (which is why I vote for my senators, governors, representatives, etc.)

2) I don't agree fully with either party at this point to vote for one or the other.

3) If a third party would ever get into office, I would vote for them, but unfortunately Americans' and politics care more about parties than about the betterment of our country. It's time to move on from the two party system.

Stating my opinion is in no way disregarding anyone else's. I know the cost that the price that was paid to have our freedom and rights and I exercise them regularly and in other such elections. I believe it is powerful as a nation for all of us to join in on the discussion, respectfully debate, and to not let this become the main focus of our lives. There are still mouths to feed, bodies to clothe, and love to be given.

Pray With Your Eyes Open

Hello there,

Can we just have a vent session? It's been super hard to be consistent with my blog the past few weeks. I've been lacking motivation, struggling with writers block, and down right too tired to get all pretty and take outfit shots and yada yada... You know how it is...

I want to share something though with you all that God has really showed to me latley. So I lack faith a lot... in some things more than others, but I still none the less need to grow in this area. Anyways, because of my lack of faith, I felt my prayers had been lacking faith and substance.... Like I knew God heard my prayers, I just didn't know if He cared to do anything about it... Kinda like, His will is His will, regardless if I pray or not, His will is going to happen, so why bother? Yeahhh not the best outlook on prayer life.

Well I think I lacked faith in prayers because I had been praying with my eyes closed... and no, I'm not talking about in a physical sense.... but in a spiritual sense.

I had realized after praying one day and thinking about all the things I have been praying for that God has answered so many already, and in such great detail and I hadn't even noticed.... I had still been praying for things that had already been answered, like a fool.

Kinda like, if you ask someone to do a back flip for you and you turn your back to them when the do it and then turn back around and ask them to do a back flip again, and they tell you "But I just did... why didn't you watch?" Well yeah, I've been doing that with my prayer life... over and over...

It's important to pray and surrender.... watch God work, pay attention, and be alert. I know I'm probably not the only one out there who has had this happen before.

I wanted to share that with you today with hope that it encourages you and causes you to really think about the answered prayers in your life... Remebering daily how God has heard and taken care of you.

You are loved <3 div="div">

Remembering Him

Good Morning Everyone!

I thought I would do something different today.

Today I decided to incorporate my quiet time in my blog post for various reasons: to share and be open, so you all could get creative with your times with God, and because I felt like it. Lol

I woke up this morning at 8AM.

I fixed myself some Museli Cereal and cut up some strawberries and am now sitting in my big comfy chair looking at the trees.

I prayed in the morning for a few people that are on my heart today and really prayed for my time with God.

I will be open here: I have been prideful with God. I've realized my lack of compassion stems from my forgetfulness and pride of how much God has healed me of and how much He continues to heal me.

I forget time and time again how He carried me through even when I wasn't seeking Him, and still continues to do so.

"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ. If we are distressed, it is for your comfort and salvation; if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you patient endurance of the same sufferings we suffer" - 2 Corinthians 1:3-6

Alright God... So I know there are tons of references in the Old Testament of how many times your people turned from you and sinned because they did not remember how you took care of them, cared for them, saved them, led them, etc.... And I feel like I've done that God. I feel like I've distanced myself from You, without even realizing, with how much I forget that I needed You and still do now.

So I want to remember the things you've healed me of... The things you've carried me through, so I'm going to list them and give thanks:

1) Health- You're always taking care of me health wise. Even though I've had the flu a few times, I'm still overall a healthy individual, I've never had major health issues and I don't have to take medications and go from Doctor to Doctor. I'm so blessed for that, I don't want to take my health for granted and I know You have allowed me to be healthy and live.

2) Car Accidents- I should have died in the one I was in when I was a kid, but you spared me and my whole family. I'm grateful none of us were severely injured, it could have been so much worse God... Any of us could have been paralyzed, dead, body deformities, and you took care of us.

3) Relationships- Father, You have led me out of toxic relationships. Relationships that were dangerous or led me far from You, somehow in someway, even before seeking You, You spared me so many times when I should have had something happen and led me to You. You used Satan's work and turned it into good and for Your glory.

4) Apartment- God, You have blessed Stephanie and I sooooo much with this lovely apartment. The view, our relationship, getting to cook and serve one another, I never thought I'd have that and I'm so grateful, because I seriously thought I was going to be homeless or commute from my parents house with the apartment before. It's an undeserved gift.

5) Deaths- God I'm grateful that I haven't had to deal with death or others that are close to me dying. Even though there have been a few deaths in the family Lord and I am sad, I still have yet to experience the sorrow and morning that comes from loosing a close friend, a parent, or a sibling. Man God, even thinking about gets me emotional. I know I will experience that someday, and I pray when that day comes I will be even stronger in You so I can face it.

6) School- God, thank You for giving me wit and smarts, even though it takes me longer to study, I am grateful of my scholastic abilities from You and to be able to do well. I know last semester I suffered a lot and went through a lot of agony and stress in my classes. Thank You for allowing me to go a different route and change my major. It was the best thing for me God and You knew it would be too. I'm able to actually study the Bible with girls, I'm not stressed when I go to campus events because all I could ever think about was when am I going to get another chance to study, I can focus and seek the Kingdom first God... I pray now with this new blessing can come gratitude and me continuing, pressing on, and wholeheartedly seeking You and Your Kingdom first God.

7) Major consequences of Sin- Father, you know that it was because of my pride that I didn't do a lot of common outward sin when I was in the world. Father, even though pride is so sinful and you can't do anything with a prideful person, you used my pride for good and prevented me from getting into life changing consequences that You knew I couldn't handle. However, I know that my heart was so bad and hard and only You and Your Word changed that.... Thank You for being selfless and patient.

8) Necessities of Life- God it is true that you take care of all our needs like Matthew 6 says... You have never not clothed me, fed me, housed me, loved me... You have given me an abundance and I'm grateful God I get to share and give that to others. I pray that I live life giving to others and sharing all the things You have blessed me with to show my gratitude to You. Thank You for always being a good Dad and keeping your promises.

9) Growing Up in the States- Father I'm soooo grateful I get to grow up in America and this is where I became a Disciple. God, my parents could have easily decided to stay in Cyprus, but You chose the times and places for them, and in return for me, so I could reach out and find You. In Cyprus I would have been blinded and distracted by the pageantry and traditions of Greek Orthodoxy that are not in Your Word... But Your plans are perfect, and You brought me here, to a free and for the most part, stable country, so I could worship the way You desire to be worshiped and I pray that my life still produces the spiritual and good fruit that You desire and that I know if I live my life truly the way You want me to I have and will get persecuted and rejected, but I pray that happens all the more in this country, because it's so easy to "claim" Christianity here and deceive ourselves and not truly live it... I pray I take up my cross daily God...

Choose Contentment

This week has been super busy. I have a test that is due for an online class tomorrow at noon and I'm slightly stressed. It's my first online class and the professor doesn't answer emails (which confuses me) so my controlling nature can get the best of me.

Well I thought I would leave you all with some encouragement and tell you that the WINNER for the Giveaway will be announced on Friday!

Have a lovely day!

See you tomorrow <3 div="div">

A Moment Of Compassion I Will Never Forget

Hello lovelies,

My apologies for not posting the past few days! It's been super hectic on my neck of the woods and to be honest, I can be guilty of being lazy or feeling uninspired.

First off... Thank you to all my comments, follewers, and everyone who has been flooding over to my blog this past week! Your encouragement means the world!

Remember to enter in the GIVEAWAY! It will be ending September 25th!

Well I thought I would share with you all something that happened to me the other day last week.

So I have been studying out compassion in my quiet times because it's something I struggle with. Not necessarily that I don't care when someone is hurting, my heart does hurt for them, however when someone is going through something that I don't necessarily relate to it can be hard for me to really be compassionate and not just be like "Get over it..." (in my head)

So I was really praying to God to give me His heart when He see's other's hurting, only as much as I could handle, I'm only dust, but enough for me to have a soft heart toward those who suffer, not matter what it may be.

After I prayed I went to class. Our classroom is kind of auditorium style, and I sit up top in the very back.
I started looking down at all my peers in my class and all of a sudden an overwhelming drop in my stomach and a heaviness of heart consumed me. So much so where I thought I was going to have to walk out and take some deep breaths.

I was consumed with anguish and compassion on these people. I saw how many souls hadn't heard or heard all of The Good News. How so many people thirst for Chirst and don't even know it, and here I am, keeping my mouth shut in class because I'm afraid to share about Jesus.

What if the people who reached out to me never did? How dark of a place I would still be in.

This was a moment in my life where this scripture really came to life for me:

"As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it and said, “If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace—but now it is hidden from your eyes."- Luke 19:41-42

It was such a surreal moment and I am so thankful that I don't have to take on the world and be burned down by it because Jesus has already won, but I'm so thankful, just as much, for those reminders to spur me own, to deepen my compassion for others and to draw closer to Jesus.

Will You Be My Girlfriend?

This past weekend was filled with answered prayers. One being this story below.

Nikki is one of my best friends. She reached out to me about 2 years ago and has been a huge part of my life ever since. As I was seeking God, Nikki made a point to take me to lunch one day and was telling me the story of her testimony. I think what impacted me the most was that she became a Disciple and then her ex boyfriend became a Disciple... and not only that they were both still faithful.. and not only that, they weren't together.

I was like "What!? How can this be?! You both decided to make Jesus Lord so why aren't you all together?"

Her answer convicted me... "If God wants it to happen, He'll make it happen, I just am focusing on God, and I'm content with whatever happens."

Well about a year later, maybe longer, God made it happen.

I have watched both Nikki and Zach and I know their testimonies. Both heavy in the World and now both heavy in the Lord. It's an amazing testimony to what God can do, and that He is a good and perfect Father and will give us the desire's of our heart if we desire in Him, which end up becoming His desires.

Nikki and Zach had a stage of building. Having quiet times together, prayer times, and have built a solid foundation with God in the middle of it all.
On Monday morning, Zach asked Nikki to go on a run (something they love to do together) and at the end of the run there was a little surprise....

I feel so blessed to have witnessed this whole process and watch both Nikki and Zach grow. They are going to be such a great example of a pure, fun, loving, and giving couple. I love you both!

Fears Of A Girly Girl

So this past week a lot has been on my heart... Life has been happening... God has been working and doing some things I don't understand and some things that I'm excited about.

I've been thinking a lot about who God has made me to be. The characteristics and personality He has given me. My gifts, my talents, and my weaknesses.... All from Him, to draw me closer to Him, to praise Him, and glorify Him.

Ever since I was a little girl I was always oozing girlyness. I never liked playing sports (but I'll watch em), I wore tap shoes in the morning for slippers because I always loved the sound of a heel. I played Barbie's all the time, and wouldn't let my mom walk me to the bus stop without wearing lipstick (all before the age of 4)... I loved being feminine and being as weird as this is for me to say... a woman.

As I grew older a lot people perceived my feminine traits as being stuck up, prissy, full of myself, and the like. And some of those things may have been true back in the day...  But even know, with even those who are in the Church I fear people still have this judgement of me, because I've seen it and experienced it.

People who only have a surface relationship with me only think "surfacy" things of me, because they assume their judgements are right... And they may not necessarily be bad judgements, but they are still only things you assumed from the outside. I remember talking to a brother one time and he was shocked that I loved to shoot guns, go paint balling, get in the mud and just be free. He sincerely thought all I wanted to do was to shop. At first it really hurt my feelings, that he thought I was so shallow.... Was I not a Daughter of the Most High? I store up treasures in Heaven, not here... Did he believe that about me?

And I started thinking this weekend... Would men not get to know me because they think my outside gives them enough insight? I can already see men thinking "High Maintenance. stay away..." and it's so hurtful, because I can be judged so much from the outside, but that's not God at all... He doesn't look at outward appearances, he cares what's on the inside, what's in my heart. So if we follow God, shouldn't this be our heart as well?

It's crazy because two of my best friends are opposities of me if you were to look at us from the outside only, you would be like "How did this happen??" But when you get to know us from the inside, you'd see how much we have in common and what binds us together is Christ, not our clothes, money, likes or dislikes, but God... And I'm so grateful that they looked past my appearance and got to know me.

This is the thing though... I will not change who I am just to get a boyfriend or a husband... I will not live a lie. Getting married is not the end all be all. As long as what I'm doing or have in my heart is not sinful, then I have zero conviction to start wearing only jeans and t-shirts everyday to make the boys less intimidated or the girls more secure.  I don't dress for others but I dress the way I do because I don't know any different. I couldn't be any different even if I tried.

"Anything not done out of faith is considered sin"- Romans 14:23

But let's get this straight. I am still a human. I cry, I get discouraged, I get hurt, I love to laugh until my stomach hurts, I can struggle with trusting God, I will try anything new or at least once. I still love to wear big sweat pants or a loose jumper with my hair in a bun and no make up just as much as the next girl. I don't dress up everyday, and I do get lazy with my appearance. I don't feel ugly without make up and will many many times not wear make up and go out and be fine with it. I don't live to people please.

At the end of the day, I just want my heart to be be like Jesus. My prayer for who ever (if ever) I get married is that we would make each other more like Christ... Nothing else.

That's all I wanted to say today...

Love,

Steph

The Last First Day

Busy Bee... Busy Bee... Busy Bee is all I can say for the past few days.

Let me Spark Note my life for you real quick.

1) Apartment is almost all decorated and organized
2) After months of agony and trying, I finally got into the online class I needed to take to keep my job
3) I'm currently scouting out places near by to take outfit posts...finally.
4) The BIG announcement will be announced on Monday... and YES it involves you all!
5) I think the city I live in is way over populated because it's taking me double the time to get to places, hence why I've been either on time or a few minutes late this week to things. Which is discouraging because I wanted to be 10 minutes early.
6) And last but not least, today is my LAST, FIRST DAY of School!!!! What an amazing feeling.

So during this summer I have done a lot of praying about Social Media. I know in our generation it has become the norm to spend so much time on social media. I think there are amazing ways to glorify God on social media sites, but a lot of times we get so busy "being Christian online" that we don't go and live the life God intended for us to live and step out on faith. God's vision was never for us to stare at computer screens all day. We are called to make Disciples, to serve, to love, and give.

I have tried numerous things to become more disciplined about using Facebook (I'm lucky that I haven't gotten addicted to Pinterest). I have made time limits, only would go on it after I had my time with God, would try and only go on twice a week, etc. and despite everything I either couldn't monitor myself well enough or I still was spending more time on Facebook than I was in my Bible or just living this awesome life God wants me to live. I don't want anything to be an idol, even if I don't intend for it to be.

After prayer and advice I have decided to fast from Facebook for an entire school year, until May. Yes, that's right, an entire year. But guys, I can't tell you how EXCITED I am to do this. I feel like there are so many things I want to do in life and I just let life pass me by a lot by how much I use technology, and especially Facebook.

I am thankful that Blogging has been such a great outlet and so fruitful. This blog will not only stay, but I know it's going to thrive because of this fast. I will have more time to put into my blog, my studies, my relationships, and most importantly my faith. So be expecting GREAT things this next year.

I will still be on Instagram so be sure to follow me there. I hardly use or spend time using that app unless I just upload a picture. I don't have twitter. Hardly ever get on Youtube, and Pinterest surprisingly has no "addiction" effect on me. So Amen.

Please keep me in your prayers that I will stay strong and committed. My roommate is changing my password, and if, for some reason, I MUST go on Facebook to respond or update our ministries website or my work website, my roommate will be the one to do it for me or will watch over me while I do what I need to do and get off. No checking notifications. I changed my settings where I wont even get notified in my email from anything from Facebook.

My fast officially starts Monday. Since I wont be on Facebook, be sure to remember to read the posts, since I won't be putting links up.

It's Monday Yall

Happy Monday to everyone! (As I yawn in my office hoping this Passion Tea and Charlie Brown songs will wake me up)

It was a super busy week for me last week, which is why I didn't post as much. I was moving into my apartment, decorating, organizing, and all over the place. The past few nights I've gone to bed at 4AM, 2AM, 3AM, and 2AM because it has been that much work and I can't go to sleep with the apartment looking a mess.

I am very excited to FINALLY be in that apartment. It's so beautiful. I will take pictures once all decorating and organizing is done.

I wanted to just do a quick post today to update you all.

I also wanted to share my goal for this week.

My goal for this week is to be 10 minutes early every time I need to be somewhere. Church, School, Work, Appointments, etc. I used to be a very prompt person and hated being even a minute late. When I got into college, sleep became a sought and longed after thing, every minute of it. So I will sleep as much as I can, even if I know I will be late.

This morning I was 30 minutes early to my advising appointment but like 15 minutes late for work. So I really want to make the Gospel attractive by how I'm living. Jesus was and is never late. He's always on time.

"...but to show that they can be fully trusted, so that in every way they will make the teaching about God our Savior attractive." - Titus 2:10

This is a great way to start the semester, that officially begins on Thursday!

A Letter To People Of My Past

If you have ever encountered me before April 21st, 2011 this is for you...A letter to people of my past... To those who met me once and never met me again... To those who encountered me either just for a small amount of time or many years... I have something to say.

I want to say I'm sorry. From the bottom of my heart. I am sorry if I ever hurt you, deceived you, lied to you, judged you, made you cry, made you sin, embarrassed you, threatened you, physically harmed you, was jealous of you, envied you, made fun of you, caused you to stumble, caused you to see anything else but Jesus.

I was dead in my sin then. I always put myself before others. I did not realized how much my words and actions really affected people. Not the way I do now. Not only because I hurt you, but more because I did this:

I am now buried with Christ and I am dead to my old self.

Becoming a disciple does not mean that I will never sin again. I would be a liar (and the Scriptures confirm that) if I said I had no sin. I take responsibility for it now, I understand the penalty of sin, and I understand (as much as I can) of how much it hurts God. Which is why I do my best to fixate my eyes on Him. If you read this and don't believe other's can change, I am sorry that you still have bitterness inside, but I can only tell you that I understand because I was once there with other people. If you want to see for yourself, come and talk with me, message me, or if I see you and say "Hi" ask me about it. But if you don't want to give me that chance, then I ask of you not to judge me. Don't hold onto the past. I want nothing more for you to thrive and to have found what I have found. Pure love and grace.

Love,

Stephanie

Let's Get Real

You know when things can just get so bad that you try and avoid the things you know you need to do to make it right... Or Satan lies to you to make you believe it's so bad when it's really as easy as turning back to God and not letting fear and guilt consume you... Well that's what happened last week.

That why I didn't post last week.
That's why I didn't even crack open my book to study at all last week. When my goal was a measly 5 hours.
That's why I avoided God.
That's why I avoided my Bible.... When all I wanted to do was to open it but I felt God just couldn't even look at me.

Then yesterday (Sunday), right after the message, a sister came up to me and asked me how I was doing... And I am honest, if I'm not doing well, I'm open because I know by not being open, that's the worst thing I can do for myself. As soon as I was sharing my heart and this sister just totally related and was going through messy stuff herself. After just a few minutes of talking she asked me if I wanted to go pray.

I was going to go home after church and just hash it out with God on my knees until I felt resolved, but I was so glad that she had asked me to pray.

We went into a dark and quiet room, sat on the floor hand in hand and decided we were going to pray for each other only. So I prayed for her and she prayed for me. I had never done that before, and if you haven't, I most definitely suggest you do so. Not only does it help you to be outwardly focused, but it's sooooo encouraging to hear all the things she remembered from even past struggles, names of specific people I had been praying about that she remembered, her thanking God for me and for who He made me to be... It almost brought me to tears. I knew God was just sitting next to us hearing it all.

"Wherever two or more gather in my name I am with them"- Matthew 18:20

I came home and listened to two sermons for my time with God... Much need after trying to avoid. Getting back into truth always drowns out the lies. I really was inspired and convicted about a certain lesson from fellow blogger on the left. I will post the link to the lesson below. It's a short lesson which would be really great to listen to with your time with God today.

Thank you all for being patient. I have lots of stories and pictures to share for the rest of the week's post.

Because I did not complete my goal at all last week I want to finish it this week. Since the last day of my class is on Thursday night I will definitely be studying more than one hour a day until Thursday, but I will be studying every day until Thursday night.

I Got The Travel Bug

So as most of you know, I took a week vacation the other week... From blogging and from Dallas.

Our church had a World Discipleship Conference in San Antonio and it was so amazing. My first conference ever and I'm so glad it got to be a world one.

There were brothers and sisters from literally every corner (I know the world is round... just roll with me here) of the Earth.

Literally as soon as we got out the car in San Antonio a few of us girl went to go babysit 5 little ones. Let me say how awesome the parents are and just spending 30 minutes with the parents made me take a mental note of who I want go to for Biblical Parenting advice and Biblical Marriage advice (God willing... lol).

I am very much an observer and (not the best thing in the world) but I notice a lot of things most people don't and one thing I saw with their marriage is just how they work together, how loving each other is to one another, and how they parent on the same page.

The rest of the conference was amazing. Theme for me to take home.... FAITH.

I'm still studying faith out, sounds silly, but sometimes you need to go back to the basics. I will do a post soon about what God is showing me about faith but I definitely need to grow in my faith about what God can do and who God says He really is and to believe it and never doubt.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend. Here are some photo's from the trip. Enjoy!

We left to drive to San Antonio at 4AM... Needless to say we were all tired.
