Hello ladies and any men that may be reading (don't be ashamed) lol! From time to time I will feature women from the Bible, whether they are ones you could admire or ones that you would have probably ran the other way from. I believe we can learn from them all.
"There is danger not only that our trade will lose its good name, but also that the temple of the great goddess Diana will be discredited; and the goddess herself, who is worshiped throughout the province of Asia and the world, will be robbed of her divine majesty.”
Acts 19:27
Diana, or Artemis, was a pagan fertility goddess and her temple is one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. Diana made it very treacherous for Paul and his disciples to continue to preach the Gospel in Asia. The Good News was beginning to take off in Asia and many people were abandoning the worship of idols and began to follow Jesus.
A craftsman's business began to suffer because no one was buying "Diana Idols" so he started an uprise against Paul and his disciples. Eventually Paul was saved by a city clerk and moved on to Macedonia.
The point of talking about Diana is that she led a lot of people into idolatry. Her temple was magnificent, built of marble, and she was a "goddess". How many things/people in our lives can look so beautiful from afar but then we realize there is no meaning behind it, just emptiness? How many "one hit wonders" have we seen go from being an A list celebrity to hardly being recognized on the street? Look at Diana, people used to bow down to her, and now most people wouldn't even know who she was if you asked them.
Putting your faith in something that wont last is the worst investment you could make. Talk about spiritual bankruptcy! Are there any Diana's in your life, something that looks promising or exquisite but when you get to the root, there is nothing there, and even worse you realize you made an idol of it? Or are you a Diana yourself? Does everything have to be always about you? Are you drawing people away from God?
I know I definitely have to make sure to check myself more times than I would like about how often I talk about myself or how my heart is in certain situations if it is not about me. Pride definitely feeds the ego people and I don't ever want to be an idol to anyone.
My hope with this blog is that it is not a Diana and that it brings you and me closer to God. Eliminate your "Dirty Diana's" and watch how much closer you will get to our spotless Lord.
Get it Stephanie! Your blog is so cute. Love that Dirty Diana quote at the end. :)
